The Architecture Awards, given every two years by the Turkish Association of Independent Architects (TurkSMD), have been announced. At the ceremony held at Ankara Sheraton Hotel, 12 awards in 5 categories were awarded.
Prof. Dr. Namik Erkal, who was the Jury President at the 16th TurkSMD Awards, shared the projects and what criteria they took into consideration during the selection process. He stated that during this period, architectural production outside the metropolis came to the fore, which showed that there was a high demand for quality architectural services not only in big cities but also in different regions of the country. Prof. Dr. Erkal also stated that architectural productions outside the building branch, such as conservation and urban design, were evaluated in the special jury award category and congratulated the award winners in all categories.
While awards were given in 5 categories such as Grand Prize, Press Award, Contribution to Architecture Award, Building Award and Special Jury Award; Kaya Arikoglu received the Grand Prize. Arikoglu was deemed worthy of this award due to his consistent stance throughout his 50-year career, his uncompromising professional ethics and values, his valuable contributions to the city he lives in and the architectural environment, and his originality.
