It is important to observe environmental protection approaches in today's interior architecture and design. Landscape Master Architect Faculty Member Dr. Beyza Cermikli emphasized that significant gains will be achieved in terms of human health and nature thanks to environmentally friendly measures.
Istanbul Atlas University Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Head of Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Landscape Master Architect Dr. Beyza Cermikli gave information about the precautions that should be taken in the field of interior architecture regarding the protection of the environment. Pointing out the importance of environmentally friendly approaches in interior architecture and design, Cermikli said, “The adoption and implementation of environmental protection approaches in interior architecture and environmental design positively affects human health and increases the quality of life and space. In this context; Environmentally friendly approaches are being developed for the interior and its environment on a wide scale, from selected materials to waste management, from energy systems to landscaping."
Nature-friendly material protects human and environmental health
Stating that human health will be protected thanks to the measures taken by taking into account the environment, Cermikli said, "The use of recyclable, nature-friendly materials produced with low energy consumption in and around the interior spaces reduces the negative effects of the spaces on the environment, while paints and coatings that are non-toxic and contain low volatile organic compounds (VOC) are used in the interior spaces will protect the air quality of the venue and therefore human health. In addition, the use of natural and rapidly renewable materials such as wood, bamboo and cork is an effective approach to environmental protection.”
Cermikli also emphasized that methods such as considering energy efficiency in interior architecture designs, using water-saving fixtures and systems, installing smart building automation systems, increasing green areas in environmental design, and using landscaping solutions such as green roofs and walls are also important for the environment.
