Prepared by economists with the support of the Turkish Ceramics Federation, the 2022 first half results of the ‘Turkey’s Export Contribution Index’ has been announced. According to the Index, the construction ceramics finished the first half of the year at the top with an export contribution rate of 22,89 and contributed 732 million dollars.
There were a lot of developments going on in the first half of 2022 which negatively affected the global trade and our export markets. The contraction in monetary policies with the Russian-Ukrainian war and global high inflation, has led to a slowdown in global economy and trade. Despite this, Turkey has shown a performance with high increases in import along with a high export performance in the first half of the year. An increase of 20 percent has been realized in Turkey’s export in the first half of 2022. The energy and commodity price increases were a determinant factor in this situation. While the general export contribution rate of Turkey’s manufacturing industry has closed 2021 positively with a score of 1,09, the contribution index has declined to 0,97 in the first half of 2022. But the export has shown a faster increase.
Construction ceramics again at the top
In terms of the contribution index data at the last of the first half of 2022, the highest export contribution rate has been realized by construction ceramics with a score of 22,89. The export of construction ceramics has increased by 22,7 percent in the first half of 2022 compared to the same of the last year. Thus, the absolute export and the net export contribution of the sector has made it to the highest level. The net contribution of construction ceramics to the export, has increased to 416 million dollars in the second quarter of 2022. And the absolute contribution of construction ceramics to the export has been 732 million dollars.
The ceramic coating materials export has increased by 28,5 percent in value and made it up to 581 million dollars. And the ceramic sanitaryware export has increased by 6,6 percent and reached to 175,1 million dollars. While the ceramic coating materials export has increased by 5,5 percent in quantity and made it up to 1,47 million tons, the ceramic sanitaryware export has increased by 0,3 percent in quantity and became 98.441 tons. While the ceramic sanitaryware export unit price has increased to 1,78 dollars/kg in the first half of 2022, the ceramic coating materials export unit price has med it up to 39,62 cents/kg.
“Sector has achieved its’ goal despite all the problems”
Underlining that the Turkish ceramics industry is an important player in the world and a leading sector of export, the Turkish Ceramics Federation President Erdem Cenesiz says: “Making manufacture with domestic resources and becoming prominent in export, the ceramics sector is making a great support to our national economy. Our goal is making the Turkish ceramics permanently take a part in the newly shaped global market and supply chain. The reason behind it to make exportation this good, is the establishment of highly modern factories. We kept going on growing and achieving our goals for the last two years despite all the problems of the pandemic. We will continue to get stronger in the countries we export to particularly in USA and increase the net inflow of foreign currency with our high domestic added value rate.”
